Shipbuilding and repair plant construction under plan in Mangistau rgn
AKTAU. October 22. KAZINFORM - "NC "Kazakhstan Engineering" JSC is working at building a shipbuilding and ship repair yard in Mangistau region.
As KazMunaiGas is also being engaged in a similar project for construction of the similar plant in Kuryk port on the Caspian coast, there is an issue of joint implementation of the project.
"In the area of Kazakhstan's sector of the Caspian Sea there are about 340 civilian and military ships. Their average age is about 30 years. According to the Transport and Communication Ministry the demand for new vessels to 2020 will be approximately 240 units of the civil ships. The demand for ship repair will be about 200 repairs per year, about 1500 by 2020.
The plant is necessary because there are no shipyards on the coast, and the current ship repair yards do not have enough power to cover the repair of all ships of over 600 tons. The actual shipbuilding facilities of our company ("Ural Plant" Zenit" JSC, "Research Institute "Gidropribor" JSC) are located in the city of Uralsk at a distance of 510 km from the coast. The capacity of the waterways of the Ural River (shoaling, short shipping season) makes it difficult to further develop the capacity of shipyards, namely the production and repair of vessels over 500 tons", informed the Deputy Chairman of Kazakhstan Engineering JSC Kairat Tilebaldinov.
