Sharapova progresses to third round at Australian Open
MOSCOW. January 19. KAZINFORM Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova defeated on Wednesday France's Virginie Razzano in the second round of the Australian Open in Melbourne. Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
Sharapova, the 14th seed, won 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 in a 121-minute match at Hisense Arena.
The 23-year-old Russian will compete with Germany's Julia Goerges in the third round.
Sharapova, the world's highest-paid sportswoman, won the Australian Open in 2008. In 2009, she did not participate in the championship because of shoulder surgery that she underwent in late 2008. The Russian has also won three Grand Slam crowns.
