Seven large projects of UN Framework to be implemented in nearest future - President

ASTANA. April 7. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Seven large projects of the UN Framework are planned to be realized in the nearest future. Head of the State Nursultan Nazarbayev has said it after the meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Astana today.

"We have reached an agreement on boosting cooperation of regional organizations with the UN. 16 institutions, funds and programs of the UN system have opened their offices in Kazakhstan to date. Majority of them works on regional and sub-regional level. We highly appreciate the UN's efforts on providing support to our country in achievement of the Millennium Development Goals", N. Nazarbayev said.

He noted that the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2010-2015 for Kazakhstan provides for allocation of USD 79.6 mln to our country. The Government of Kazakhstan is actively involved today in co-financing the UN projects.

The President also said that ecological and socio-economic situation in the area of the Aral Sea were in spotlight of the meeting. The parties agreed on enhancing the activity of the International Aral Rescue Fund.
