Senate ratifies Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Agreement on State Border Regime
Senators have approved the law “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Kazakh-Uzbek state border regime,” Qazinform News Agency reports.
The document was developed to implement the provisions of the Treaty on the State Border between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan as of November 16, 2001, and following completion of the demarcation of the Kazakh-Uzbek state border and the signing the corresponding Demarcation Treaty on December 22, 2022.
According to the Senate Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security, the Agreement was signed on August 8, 2024, in Astana.
The document establishes a unified international legal framework for regulating relations between the two countries along their shared state border.
It defines the procedures for maintaining the state border and border markers, for the crossing of the state border by individuals, vehicles, cargo, and other property, as well as for conducting flights and carrying out economic and other activities in the border zone, and also establishes mechanisms for the prevention and resolution of border incidents.
The adoption of the Agreement will contribute to strengthening the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan, developing cross-border cooperation, improving the effectiveness of cooperation between the competent authorities of the two states, as well as further strengthening the strategic partnership and good-neighborly relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
