Senate ratified Amendment to Convention on physical protection of nuclear material
ASTANA. February 25. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ The Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan adopted the Law 'On ratification of the Amendments to the Convention on the physical protection of nuclear material' at the plenary sitting.
Vice Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan Dyuisenbay Turganov noted that the Convention was a basic international agreement regulating the issues of ensuring physical security of nuclear activities. Kazakhstan joined the Convention on December 22, 2004.
The Amendment to the Convention is called to improve the mechanism of cooperation between the member states of the Convention. Besides, it is aimed at improving and promoting the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the world as one coordinating center in case of a challenge to nuclear security. The Amendment was adopted at the diplomatic conference held on July 4-8 in 2005 in Vienna.
