Senate approves amendments to judicial system legislation
ASTANA. September 24. KAZINFORM / Muratbek Makulbekov / The draft law on amendments and addenda to the Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure and the Code of Civil Procedure of the Republic of Kazakhstan for improvement of the judicial system have been discussed at the plenary meeting of the Senate.
Chairman of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court Abdrashit Zhukenov reported that the bill provides for a three-link judicial system. The first link is the district and courts equivalent to it will investigate civil and criminal cases in first instance. The second link is regional and similar courts, which will function as courts of appeal and cassation instances. The third link is the Supreme Court, which will consider the case in the order of supervision.
"The bill provides for the establishment of specialized inter-district courts of jurisdiction in criminal cases, which will be considered the most complex criminal cases as courts of first instance", - A. Zhukenov said.
According to him, the bill provides for specialized military courts of garrisons as courts of first instance. After discussion, the senators have approved the bill at the first reading.
