Second heart transplant operation conducted successfully in Astana

Transplantation bureau of the JSC “NRCCS” received information on the presence of a potential donor with brain death in Emergency hospital in Almaty city, whose relatives donated his organs for transplantation to people who need such operation. Brigade of specialists from the capital in the amount of 7 people headed by the director of the NRCCS Y.V. Pya departed to Almaty. From the time of their departure for the donor heart, specialists in the NRCCS started working on selection of the appropriate recipient for possible transplantation of the donor heart. A recipient with corresponding medical parameters after numerous medical examinations was a resident of Almaty city, who had been in critical condition for the past six months. It should be noted that the heart transportation was carried out thanks to unique medical equipment Organ Care System (TransMedics, USA).

This system is used only in three leading clinics of the world - in the USA, Australia, Germany, and now in Kazakhstan. Next morning the donor heart was delivered to Astana. Heart transplant operation was conducted successfully. As of today the patient’s condition is stable.
