Second blast strikes Pakistan's Peshawar, 25 killed

PESHAWAR. April 20. KAZINFORM At least 25 people were killed as a second blast hit a crowded market in the Pakistani northwestern city of Peshawar on Monday, police said; Kazinform refers to China Daily.

One senior police officer was also killed in the attack, hospital sources told Xinhua. The rescue team said the powerful blast killed 25 people and injured more than 40.

The blast was targeted on a protest against the electricity loadshedding in Qisa Khwani bazaar of downtown Peshawar and was followed by firing, eyewitnesses said. The rally was organized by a political party Jamaat-e-Islami against the government.

It was the second blast in Peshawar, the capital of newly- renamed northwest province, on Monday. The North West Frontier Province was renamed as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa under a constitutional amendment bill signed by President Asif Ali Zardari earlier on Monday; Kazinform cites China Daily.
