TANA. October 11. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ "We consider Kazakhstan as a factor for stability, the initiator of nuclear disarmament and security in the world," Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland said during his meeting with Majilis Speaker Ural Mukhamedzhanov in Astana.
Mukhamedzhanov noted that Kazakhstan has been successfully implementing "Path to Europe" Program for 2009-2011, which represents a strategic plan for internal reforms aimed at approaching the European standards.
Talking about the politics of the republic, the Speaker of the Majilis noted Kazakhstan's OSCE chairmanship in 2010 and its presidency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in 2011. This is an eloquent testimony to the growing authority of Kazakhstan in the international arena.
Special attention was paid to the relations between Kazakhstan and Norway. Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland noted the necessity to develop a joint action plan. One of the ways to deepen cooperation is to join the Venice Convention, and a number of other documents.
