Searchers spot oil slicks in sea on missing AirAsia plane's path

JAKARTA. KAZINFORM The Indonesian air force said Monday rescuers and fishermen have spotted oil slicks in a sea area where a jetliner belonging to the Indonesian affiliate of Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia Bhd. went missing Sunday.

Air Force spokesman Vice Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto told Kyodo News they "visually" spotted the oil slicks about 105 nautical miles east of Belitung Island off the eastern coast of Sumatra Island, Kyodo reports. "We haven't been able to confirm, however, whether it was the fuel of the AirAsia aircraft," Hadi said.
