SCO joint exercise on emergency relief situation held in China

BEIJING. June 17. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan's rescuers took part in joint exercises of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states under the logo "Rescue and cooperation -2013" held on June 11-16 in China.

Rescue teams from Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, more than 1000 people, were involved into the exercises in Shaoxin,a prefecture-level city in northeastern Zhejiang province, the People's Republic of China. According to the on-scene emergency response exercise scenario - an earthquake hit one of the towns in the Chinese province Zhejiang and China requested an assistance in natural disasters response from the SCO member countries.

The exercises have shown that the rescuers of the SCO member states successfully coped with the task - the provision of emergency assistance in the earthquake. In addition, as part of the exercise was held a seminar "The elimination of emergency situations in the big cities".

"Exercises are a good opportunity for the SCO member states rescue teams to exchange experience," director of the civil defense department of the Kazakh Ministry of Emergencies Dikhanbek Satylganov told Chinese mass media.

According to him, major natural disasters can be deadly for mega cities. "I am pleased that we have such an opportunity here to discuss issues to improve our ability to provide emergency aid", the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted.
