SCO, CICA are not competing organizations - Saudabayev
TASHKENT. May 24. KAZINFORM /Rassul Bakhamov/ The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia must not be considered as competing structures. OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev said at the meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers in Tashkent.
"These two organizations complement each other very well. Therefore, the SCO could use the platform of the CICA more actively", Saudabayev noted.
"In this view we propose to support the proposition of the CICA Secretariat to establish partnership relations with the SCO", he stated.
Development of cooperation with the Organization of Islamic conference, the OSCE, the UN Committees, Interpol and the UNESCO is quite promising for the SCO, the Kazakh Secretary of State added.
K. Saudabayev stressed that after the Tashkent Summit of the SCO Heads of State Kazakhstan will chair both the OSCE and the SCO by 2010 end. "We could use this unique opportunity for clarification of the goals and objectives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and strengthening trust between these functionally similar structures. Establishment of contacts between the Executive Committee of the SCO Anti-Terrorist Structure and the OSCE Anti-Terrorist Center could be very useful in this context", K. Saudabayev pointed out.
