School textbooks should not have different views on WWII events
VLADIMIR. July 22. KAZINFORM Russian President Dmitry Medvedev believes that the history school textbooks should not have different positions on the events of the Second World War.
According to Itar-Tass, speaking at a joint meeting of the presidential councils for culture and science devoted to the arrangements for the celebrations on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of Russian statehood, Medvedev called the problems of teaching history at Russian schools as the top priority.
"We are facing a serious problem that is the problem of teachers and their ability to teach history of such a big and complicated country as Russia, the problem of interpretations and the problem of so-called consensus points," he pointed out.
"Whether it is possible to have different positions on all issues of history in terms of teaching in particular," the president contemplated. "Certainly, the science can have various and absolutely contrary views on various events, but whether the history textbooks can give any other interpretation, for instance, of the events of the Second World War?"
"To my mind, it is out of question. It would be harmful. But this is also a matter for a joint research and work," Medvedev underlined.
