School student from China - absolute champion of 51st International Mathematical Olympiad in Astana
ASTANA. July 13. KAZINFORM /Murat Zhakeyev/ Absolute Champion of the 51st International Mathematical Olympiad in Astana became representative of China - school student from Shanghai Nie Zipei. Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov has announced this at the official closing ceremony of the Olympiad in Astana.
In his welcome speech the |Premier emphasized that Kazakhstan for the first time was honored to be an organizing country of such authoritative intellectual tournament of mathematicians. In Massimov's opinion, such Olympiad could hardly be held 20 years ago.
"Earlier, a limit of ambitions for a young mathematician from the CIS and the former Soviet Union was to participate in the All-Union Olympiad in Moscow or Novosibirsk. And now each of our countries can participate in the International Olympiad. It is achievement of our independence", K.Massimov emphasized.
The 51st International Mathematical Olympiad was held in Astana on July 6-12. Over 500 school students took part in it.
The 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in the Netherlands.
