Sazgen Sazy Ensemble’s concert celebrating Republic Day of Kazakhstan attracts full house in Brussels

The concert of “Sazgen Sazy” Folklore and Ethnographic Ensemble organized in the capital of the European Union on the eve of the Republic Day of Kazakhstan became the largest presentation of Kazakh folklore music in the city, Kazinform Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

The performance of Kazakh musicians took place in Flagey, one of the most important cultural venues of Belgium, a stage attracting the most prestigious musicians and a music recording center for many classical music orchestras of Europe.

The guests of “Sazgen Sazy” listened to famous folklore musical pieces, the works of composers such as Qurmangazy, Nurgissa Tlendiyev, Latif Khamidi and Asset Beiseuov, as well as the famous compositions of European classical music played on national instruments. The concert opened with a play of the anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Belgium’s “La Brabançonne” and “Ode to Joy” from the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven which symbolizes the European Union on Kazakh instruments.

The sounds of ancient instruments received the special attention of the guests. The Ensemble’s musicians are distinguished by their skillful play on several instruments. The concert featured musical works on the dombra, sybyzgy, zhetygen, saz syrnai, adyrna, sazgen and narqobyz. Along with a masterful play on ancient instruments, the performance of the ensemble in costumes designed on the sketches of national clothes offered the viewers to get acquainted with the elements of Kazakh ethnographic culture.

Welcoming the guests of the event, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Belgium, Margulan Baimukhan, congratulated the compatriots on the Republic Day, emphasizing the significance of this holiday in the formation of an independent nation. The Declaration of Sovereignty of 1990 represents a turning point in the further development of the country, and the principles of statehood, a policy aimed at the creation of equal opportunities for citizens, and strengthening social harmony are reflected in the goals of the multi-vector foreign policy of modern Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh diplomat thanked the team of the ensemble for supporting national public diplomacy, as well as Kazakhstan’s European partners for active cooperation and deepening the dialogue in strategically important areas.

Commenting on the event for local media, Michael Siebert, Managing Director of the European External Action Service for Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, regional cooperation and OSCE European Union, congratulated the people of Kazakhstan on the occasion of the Republic Day, highlighting the dynamic development of Kazakhstan as a strong state combining its rich tradition with modern trends. He wished further success to the important partner of the European Union and the leading country in Central Asia.

Among 600 guests of the musical evening were representatives of the European Union and NATO, heads of diplomatic missions, members of the European and Belgian parliaments, heads of several regions of Belgium and Belgian business, as well as citizens and natives of Kazakhstan living in Belgium. It is worth noting that some representatives of the Kazakh diaspora traveled from other European countries to attend the concert.

The concert of the “Sazgen Sazy” Ensemble in Luxembourg and Belgium was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Belgium in cooperation with the Mayor’s Office of Almaty and the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Luxembourg.

Earlier it was reported that a photo exhibition to promote inclusiveness had been held at the Astana international airport.
