Saakashvili condemns Europe's policy on Belarus
MINSK. July 28. KAZINFORM President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili has strongly condemned the isolation of Belarus by Europe. He made this statement at a joint briefing with his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski who is in Georgia on an official two-day visit, news agencies reported; Kazinform cites BelTA.
The President of Georgia called on Europe to engage in a dialogue with Belarus. "The policy of isolation of Belarus increases its chances of getting under Russia's control, which is counterproductive for Europe's long-term development," Mikhail Saakashvili said.
In his words, it would be absurd to say that Russia is more democratic than Belarus. "The policy of isolation, as it often happens, is a direct attempt to destroy Belarus' sovereignty and let the country fall under total control of the present government of Russia. Belarusians are a very talented European nation, and this outcome would be detrimental to the entire region. I think there is a need for a dialogue and an open discussion with Belarus," Mikhail Saakashvili said.
