S Korean president pledges education reform
SEOUL. February 22. KAZINFORM South Korean president Lee Myung-bak said Monday that education reform is one of the country's top agenda items this year, promising to reside over a monthly meeting on changing the public education system, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
"Education reform is one of the primary tasks of our government this year," Lee said in his biweekly radio address.
"We will hold a meeting every month to review our education policy and will do our best to have the students, parents, and teachers sense a real change happening," Lee added.
Lee's announcement came after scores of pictures depicting naked teenagers on graduation day started floating online recently, which local media said was a graduation ceremony ritual largely stemming from school violence.
Last week, Lee called the problem a "cultural issue" and a " serious illness" to the society, adding "We should approach the issue with our culture of education in mind", Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.news.xinhuanet.com for full version.
