Rwandan man charged with genocide in Finland

HELSINKI. June 1. KAZINFORM A Rwandan man residing in southern Finland was charged Sunday night for his involvement in mass murdering during the ethnic cleansing in Rwanda in 1994, local media reported Monday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The 58-year-old suspect, who applied for asylum upon his arrival in Finland in 2003, faces charges of genocide or secondary charges for 15 murders.
Raija Toiviainen, state prosecutor of Finland, formally laid the charges Sunday as information emerging from a preliminary investigation indicates that the man had participated in the ethnic cleansing in 1994.
The trial will probably begin this autumn. The case would be the first genocide trial in Finland. The maximum penalty for genocide is a life imprisonment, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
