Russian republic declares mourning days for plane crash victims

MOSCOW. June 21. KAZINFORM Russia's northern republic of Karelie on Tuesday declared three days of mourning from Wednesday over the Petrozavodsk air crash that killed 44 and injured eight. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

According to a statement posed on the republic's official website, the days of mourning will be observed from June 22 to June 24 in the republic. State flags will be flown at half mast and all entertainment TV and radio broadcasts will be canceled.

On late Monday, a Tu-134 passenger plane en route from Moscow's Domodedovo airport to Russia's northwest city of Petrozavodsk, the administrative center of Karelie, crash landed on a highway about one km away from Petrozavodsk airport.

Russia's top investigative agency said bad weather, pilot error or a technical malfunction might have contributed to the crash. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
