Russian president urges Internet copyright regulation
MOSCOW. April 29. KAZINFORM Russia should bring forward an initiative to regulate copyright on the Internet, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Friday. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The president, who met with the country's Internet community which include bloggers and editors of online media, stressed the urgency of optimization of the work of the online services and mass-media.
Medvedev said that protection of the intellectual property, copyright and prevention of cyber crimes are among the most acute problems the web community face.
Thus, he asked representatives of the online media to think about possible Civil Code amendments aimed at regulating copyright on the Internet.
The president also assured that the government would not intend to impose restrictions on the Internet in Russia.
Earlier this month, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) proposed a ban on foreign Internet services, causing alarm among Russia's estimated 60 million Internet users. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com fo full version
