Russian president’s wife visits old Russian town of Murom
MUROM. July 5. KAZINFORM The ancient Russian town of Murom will become the centre of love and faith on July 8 when Russia is going to mark its newly-established holiday - The Day of Love, Faith and Family. The town was a home to a 13th century Orthodox couple - Prince Pyotr and his wife Fefronya. Their life became an example of love and marital fidelity for Russian people, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
The day was revered in pre-revolutionary Russia. It was abolished after the 1917 revolution and was officially revived last year. The Day of Love, Faith and Family will be marked nationwide for the second time. Russian compatriots abroad will also celebrate it.
Svetlana Medvedeva, the wife of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, visited Murom on Saturday. She is the head of the organizing committee for the holiday. She suggested that the camomile be the holiday symbol this year.
Svetlana Medvedeva bowed to the holy relics of the Saint Pyotr and Fevronya in the Trinity Church of the St. Trinity New Maiden's Convent founded in 1643. The Convent has a unique icon stand with icons embroidered in gold.
On Saturday evening Svetlana Medvedeva attended a concert devoted to the Day of Love, Faith and Family.
The authorities in Murom used this weekend to carry out many charitable actions. On Saturday, they congratulated newly-weds, presented gifts to families with many children and honored and greeted couples that marked their golden and silver weddings.
