Russian PM to visit China in mid-October
BEIJING. September 30. KAZINFORM Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to China from Oct. 11 to 12, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei announced on Friday; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
At the invitation of Premier Wen Jiabao, Putin will visit China and attend the 16th regular meeting between the two countries' premiers, Hong said at a daily press briefing.
President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders will meet with Putin to discuss bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, Hong said.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov will also travel to Beijing to meet Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Oct. 10. In addition, Zhukov and State Councilor Liu Yandong will attend the 12th meeting of the China-Russia people-to-people cooperation committee on Oct.11.
The regular meetings between Chinese and Russian prime ministers, first established in 1996, have become an important platform for guiding and coordinating bilateral cooperation, Hong said.
The upcoming meeting between Wen and Putin will "summarize experience after the 15th regular meeting and implement the agreements reached during President Hu Jintao's Russia visit in June," Hong said, adding that it will also map out future cooperation in economics, trade, people-to-people exchanges and other areas; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
