Russia, U.S. continue work on arms reduction treaty - White House

WASHINGTON. January 12. KAZINFORM Moscow and Washington continue their work on a new U.S.-Russian strategic arms reduction treaty, but there are no concrete details as of yet, a spokesman for the White House said, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

"We continue to work with our Russian counterparts on trying to find an agreement that, quite frankly, that works for both sides... But nothing as of yet to report," Robert Gibbs said at a daily press briefing.

Moscow and Washington are expected to sign a new document at the beginning of 2010 to replace the START 1 treaty, which expired on December 5.

The treaty's outline agreed by the presidents included cutting nuclear arsenals to 1,500-1,675 operational warheads and delivery vehicles to 500-1,000, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version.
