Russia to invest almost 50 bln rubles in transport security before 2014
GORKI. February 16. KAZINFORM The federal government will invest almost 50 billion rubles in transport security before 2014, Transport Minister Igor Levitin said at the Tuesday conference chaired by President Dmitry Medvedev; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
"The [transport security] program is coordinated with all the ministries. Its total value will reach 46.7 billion rubles by 2014," the minister said.
"A substantial sum, about 12 billion rubles, will be invested in the metro security. We think that the metro is the weakest link in security efforts, as the Moscow metro alone has about 300 entrances," he said.
A passenger screening system, which Medvedev was shown at the Okhotny Ryad station of the Moscow metro, is being tested, Levitin said. "Law enforcers are helping us to develop a metro security model," he added.
