Russia to create state e-mail service by end of 2010
MOSCOW. April 9. KAZINFORM Russia will create a state e-mail service allowing citizens to communicate with officials and be rendered public services via the Internet by the end of 2010, the CNews web portal has said, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
The initiative is part of efforts by the Russian government to create an electronic public service system, intended to reduce the level of corruption and red tape in the country.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev approved the initiative of creating a state e-mail service last year. The service will provide Russians with an opportunity to apply for various documents and receive them by e-mail, without having to stand in long queues.
"We do not reject the existence of other e-mail services, but we want to be sure that a letter sent by an official will be received by a person whom it is intended for," Ilya Massukh, an advisor to the Russian communications minister, was quoted as saying by CNews, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti.
