Russia to come back to world grain market in foreseeable future – Putin
MOSCOW. October 11. KAZINFORM Russia will come back to the world grain market as a leader in the foreseeable future, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at a Sunday meeting dedicated to the Agriculture and Processing Industry Day; Kazinform refers to ITAR-TASS.
"Our harvest and reserves fully meet the domestic grain demand. I am confident that Russia will return to the world grain market in the foreseeable future, and it will be a leader," he said.
The Russian government suspended grain exports in early August due to severe drought conditions that ruined much of the harvest. The embargo lift will be discussed when next year's harvest is collected and the grain balance is drawn.
Russian producers have a sufficient potential, competitive advantage and ambitions to return to the world grain market, Putin said. "The government guarantees support," he added.
About 40 billion rubles were assigned for cleaning up the drought aftermath, Putin said. He noted that the government also helped farmers reschedule their loans. "We must support long-term plans of farmers and ensure efficient use of the ample funds invested in agribusiness," he said; Kazinform cites ITAR-TASS.
