Russia's Far East coast may be hit with 8-meter waves
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. December 15. KAZINFORM Local authorities in Russia's Far East on Wednesday issued a warning about a dangerous roll of the sea in the coastal waters, with sea swells as high as eight meters (26 feet). Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
"The warning has been sent to all relevant recipients," an emergencies ministry official told RIA Novosti.
A powerful cyclone, carrying gusty winds and heavy rain, approached Russia's Far East coast from the Sea of Japan on Tuesday.
Emergencies officials warned all commercial ships along the coast of the possibility of heavy icing, and ordered them to moor in safe harbors.
All local flights have been canceled at least until December 16.
Weather experts predict the cyclone may leave the area in the next 24 hours. Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru
