Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland start Barents Rescue 2009 drill

MURMANSK. September 9. KAZINFORM. Barents Rescue 2009 exercises of Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland started in Murmansk on Tuesday in keeping with the intergovernmental agreement of member countries of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council. This is the fourth drill of the series, and the first one held in Russia; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

Barents Rescue is held on land and in the sea.

On September 9, the rescuers will train the cleanup of a traffic accident with radioactive contamination of vehicles and terrain. The drill will be held at the 1,405th kilometer of the Murmansk-Kirkenes road. Also, the firemen will jointly put down a wildfire in the border zone.
