"Having considered all circumstances and the level of dissemination of the disease (intestinal infection) there, we have allowed the supply of vegetables from Denmark and Spain," said Inspector Gennady Onishchenko.

Russia banned vegetable imports from the EU in early June following an outbreak of a highly virulent strain of the E. coli bacteria that has so far killed more than 40 people in Europe.

In May, Russia said that Moscow and the European Union had reached an agreement to immediately lift the ban on the condition that EU provides strict checks to ensure the imported vegetables are safe. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
