Russia creates broad network of radiation monitoring stations in Far East

MOSCOW. March 17. KAZINFORM Russia has created a broad network of radiation monitoring stations in its Far Eastern regions; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

"Due to the complex situation in Japan, the Russian Federation has created a ramified network of radiation monitoring and laboratory control in the Far Eastern Federal District. Monitoring has been stepped up and is conducted every two to three hours," Emergencies Ministry spokesperson Irina Andiranova told Itar-Tass on Wednesday, March 16.

A total of 237 stations have been set up, and their number will increase. "These are both mobile and stationary stations of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, the Emergencies Ministry, and the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare. Units of the Border Guard Service and the Defence Ministry have been engaged in monitoring, and four helicopters of the Far Eastern branch of the Emergencies Ministry and Kamchatavia conduct aerial surveillance.
