Romanian president to attend a SEECP summit in Chisinau

CHISINAU. May 28. KAZINFORM Romanian President Trajan Basescu will visit Moldova to participate in a meeting of the heads of state and government of the members of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP). It will be held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, on June 4-5; Kazinform refers to ITAR-TASS.

A source at Moldova?s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and European Integration told journalists on Wednesday that the Romanian president had confirmed his participation in the summit. President Basescu?s visit will take place amid rising tensions in relations between Moldova and its Romanian neighbour. On Wednesday, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin who will chair the meeting accused the Romanian leadership of pursuing an ?aggressive policy?. He said that Romanian citizens had taken part in the April rallies in Chisinau, which followed the presidential election in Moldova. The opposition that was dissatisfied with the Communists? victory in the country?s parliamentary elections accused the authorities of vote rigging. However, monitors from the OSCE, the European Union, the CIS and other international organizations confirmed the voting had been legitimate; Kazinform cites ITAR-TASS.
