RES account for almost 12% of energy generated in Kazakhstan

The Parliamentary Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals held its meeting in Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev reported about the situation in renewable energy sector in Kazakhstan.

According to him, RES sector demonstrates a stable growth.

"Since 2014, its capacity increased by more than 16 times. In 2023, the volume of electricity generated by the RES projects reached 6.675 billion kWh, or 5.92% of the total volume of electricity production. With the consideration of large hydroelectric power stations, this volume reached 13.7%," said the Minister.

Presently, the structure of electricity generation in Kazakhstan looks as follows:

RES – 11.8%;

Hydro-electric power stations – 10.2%;

Gas – 24.8%;

Coal – 53.3%.
