Renewable energy sources to generate up to 3% of total electricity in Kazakhstan by 2020
ASTANA. January 16. KAZINFORM By 2020 the share of renewable energy sources will be up to 3% of total electricity generation in Kazakhstan, and by 2050 it will grow to 30%, Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov said at the seminar entitled "Green economy: energy efficiency and energy saving", Kazinform refers to primeminister.kz.
According to expert estimates, Kazakhstan's potential of renewable energy resources such as hydro, wind and solar energy is estimated at over 1 trillion kilowatt-hours per year.
In addition, the Government of Kazakhstan is preparing an action plan for implementation of the project on renewable energy sources until 2020. According to this plan, it is planned to launch renewable energy facilities with a capacity of 1.8 MW.
"Since 2011, about 25 MW of capacity in the country's energy mix has been generated from renewable energy sources. Until the end of 2014 the energy balance is to increase by another 50 MW," Kapparov said.
