Red deer population in S Kazakhstan increased twofold

MKENT. September 18. KAZINFORM. /Tatyana Pylayeva/ According to the annual autumn wildlife population statistics, the maral (Cervus elaphus) population in Aksu-Zhabagly National Park, South Kazakhstan region, increased twofold.
"Zoologists of the national park counted the number of species for three days. As a result it became clear that the number of red deer increased twice. It counts 64 species at present", research officer Yeraly Kospakov said.
The number of other inhabitants of the national park - argali (Ovis ammon), roe deer, wild hog, Siberian ibex, bear, leopard, wolf, lynx, fox and badger - remained at the last year level.
Next survey will be held in winter.
