In the framework of public hearings the issues of solid household waste in Astana will be discussed by local experts and representatives of non-governmental organizations. In addition, also discussed will be the results of a pilot project on separate collection of waste.

As of today, the issue of managing solid household waste in Astana is one of the most important problems both for residents and for the city administration. The increased volume of household waste as a result of a growing population of the city along with a poorly-developed system for collecting and processing waste presents a serious challenge to the environment in the city and its nearby areas.

The public hearings are scheduled and will be held in the framework of the project Participatory Instruments and Mechanisms for Better Waste Management in Astana. This project is funded by the European Union in the amount of EUR 108,087 and implemented by the Public Foundation "EcoIDEA" (Agency for Ecological Initiatives Development) together with CAREC.
