President visits Radiotherapy and Diagnostics Center in Ust Kamenogorsk
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev started his working trip to the East Kazakhstan region with a visit to the Radiotherapy and Diagnostics Center set up on the ground of the Regional Multifunctional Cancer and Surgery Center, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Akorda.
The President was demonstrated the operation of such modern medical devices as the latest generation MRI scanner, Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator, Discovery RT computerized tomography scanner, which allow to conduct highly accurate early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.The Center is equipped with PACS system which allows to store radiological images and quickly search and study them in real time.
According to Director Gulmira Sagidullina, more than 3,000 surgeries are carried out at the Multifunctional Cancer and Surgery Center annually. 60% of them are performed using the minimally invasive treatment methods. Special attention is given to qualification upgrading of the personnel abroad. The Center organizes regular master classes with the participation of local and foreign specialists.
Currently the region observes reduction in the number of neglected cancer cases (3-4 stage) due to early detection of malignancies.
The Head of State talked to the doctors of the Center and wished them success in their work. He pointed out the importance of establishment of such modern health facilities in the region, as cancer remains the second most common cause of death in Kazakhstan, after cardivascular diseases.
