President Tokayev participates in affirmation ceremony of AIFC Court Chief Justice
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated today in the official affirmation ceremony of the newly-appointed Chief Justice of the AIFC Court, The Lord Burnett of Maldon, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Akorda press service.
AIFC Governor Renat Bekturov, Chairman of the International Arbitration Centre (IAC) Thomas Krümmel, and Christopher Campbell-Holt, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the AIFC Court and IAC, participated in the ceremony.
Opening the official ceremony, the Head of State noted a significant role of this institution in tackling the commercial disputes.
“The Astana International Financial Center is an important platform trusted by investors. A key role here is played by the AIFC Court, which has an independent court system meeting the international standards. Dear Lord Burnett, I congratulate you on the appointment to this position. I believe that your election reaffirms commitment of the AIFC court system to the principles of inviolability, reliability and trust,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The Head of State also thanked former Chief Justice of the AIFC Court, The Lord Jonathan Mance for a diligent performance of his duties and efforts to ensure fairness and justice in every case heard in the AIFC Court. After the ceremony, the Head of State and the participants of the event discussed the development of the AIFC Court and the International Arbitration Centre as the key investment institutions promoting the country’s investment attractiveness. The President also highlighted the importance of introducing the best international law practices in disputes settlements and active use of modern technologies, including the artificial intelligence.
