President slams Government for lack of war on shadow economy
ASTANA. October 11. KAZINFORM Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan, has harshly criticized the Government for lack of stubborn fight against the informal economy.
"The corresponding plan for war on 'gray economy' has been adopted, however, there are no results. I've given specific instructions to tighten control over alcohol sales. A special bill has been developed for these purposes, but its enactment is postponed until 2015," the Head of State noted.
According to the President, currently Kazakhstan occupies one of the leading spots in the world by alcohol consumption. "In order to remedy the situation, it is crucial to increase alcohol prices and taxes and limit the number of points of sale," N. Nazarbayev stressed.
"Many countries have already adopted this approach. I instruct the Prime Minister to report on the situation with the informal economy on a regular basis," President Nazarbayev said.
