President Nazarbayev meets with Head of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan
ASTANA. November 28. KAZINFORM Today, in Akorda presidential residence President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with Ján Kubiš, the Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, the president's press service reports.
In Astana the sides discussed the primary areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN, especially the mechanisms of ensuring security in the region and the problems of economic revival of Afghanistan.
The Head of State voiced Kazakhstan's readiness to continue its assistance to Afghanistan through various projects aimed at the development of the country, for instance offering educational grants to Afghan students.
Mr. Kubiš, in turn, informed President Nazarbayev of the preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections in Afghanistan in April 2014 and highlighted the UN's efforts on stabilization of the situation in the region.
