President N.Nazarbayev awarded Honorary Doctorate degree of Korean University

Speaking to the faculty and students, N.Nazarbayev thanked the leadership of the University for awarding him such an honorary title. He noted that the Korean University and its alumni made great contribution to the development of the country. They promoted Korea's coming to the forefront of the world policy and economy.

The Kazakh President highly appraised the results of his talks with Koran President Lee Myung-bak.

"It is important to note that we intend to refocus our bilateral economic cooperation on implementation of high-tech and innovative projects. Close interaction of universities and other higher educational institutions, research institutes and centers of Kazakhstan and Korea will play an important role in it", the Kazakh Head of the State noted.

N.Nazarbayev said that the scientific community of Korea gets an opportunity to cooperate with the New University of Astana. The University will be opened this year and is designed to become a pioneer in the development of the Kazakh science and education. Advanced laboratories and scientific-research center with modern equipment will function there.

The President also noted that specialists from many world countries were invited to work at the University and expressed hope that professors from Korea would lecture there as well.

According to N.Nazarbayev, to date 100 Kazakh students study at the higher educational institutions of Korea. Kazakhstan intends to extend educational exchange within the frameworks of "Bolashak" program.

The Head of the State wished the faculty and students of the University prosperity and welfare.
