President called on Eurasian Media Forum delegates to bring Kazakhstan's initiatives on nuclear security to attention of world community and politicians

At the Washington summit we have submitted a package of proposition on strengthening the non-proliferation regime. These propositions were highly appreciated by the leading countries of the globe. Head of the State Nursultan Nazarbayev said it welcoming the participants of the IX Eurasian Media Forum in Almaty today.

"First, we have proposed to develop and sign new international acts in the sphere of nuclear weapons non-proliferation. In particular, these are the treaties on universal horizontal and vertical non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, on prohibition of production of fissile materials for military aims. I have also initiated to sign a Universal Declaration of Nuclear Weapons Free World by the global community. Today we propose to sign a new Global Treaty on General and Full Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons under the UN aegis. Secondly, we spoke for enhancement of international control over the programs in the sphere of control of nuclear energy. We consider that all countries have equal right to carry out nuclear energy researches. Alongside no one must cross the line separating the peaceful nuclear program from military one", the Head of the State said.

As the President stressed, Kazakhstan had confirmed its readiness to place the International Nuclear Fuel Bank on its territory under the IAEA aegis. "We possess necessary infrastructure and we have highly-qualified specialists for this. Thirdly, we called on the world for establishment of new nuclear free areas including the Middle East. Fourthly, holding the Conference of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism will become Kazakhstan's contribution to realization of the mission of the Global Washington Summit", N. Nazarbayev said.

"These are Kazakhstan's initiatives regarding nuclear security. We intend to work on their implementation together with the UN, the IAEA, the Nuclear Suppliers Group and member countries of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism. I call on all participants of the Eurasian Media Forum to bring these propositions and ideas to attention of the world community and politicians of their countries", the President said.
