Prague hosts second part of 18th economic-environmental forum of OSCE
ASTANA. May 24. KAZINFORM The Second part of the 18th economic and environmental forum of the OSCE on Promotion of good governance at border crossing points, ensuring safety of land transportation, facilitating international road and railway transport within the OSCE is being held in Prague at present, the press office of the Ministry of Transport and Communications reports.
The meeting is attended by the representatives of state bodies, international governmental and non-governmental organizations representing the member-states of the Organization. Kazakhstan is represented there by Minister of Transport and Communications Abelgazy Kussainov.
Issues regarding mainly motor vehicle were discussed within the first part of the forum. The emphasis was put on effective facilitation of the international road transportation, safety and better control at border crossings. As a result, the participants had all-round exchange of views on creation of favorable conditions for transportation in the OSCE area.
Ecological aspects of safety of transport will be in spotlight of the second part of the forum. This theme is of great importance in building the common architecture of transport safety.
Specific issues will be touched upon such as securing legal transportation in Central Asia and its safety at the borders with Afghanistan.
Delivering a speech on the first day of the forum Minister of Transport and Communications Abelgazy Kussainov noted that transport was the material basis of industrial relations among the countries which helped build the world economy. "It is believed that the issue of development and improvement of transportation in the OSCE region is of high importance. This is where we should concentrate our efforts on - building attractive transport networks in accordance with the modern requirements, ensuring effective, uninterrupted operation of transport infrastructure in accordance with the international standards and harmonizing transport legislations of member countries", he added.
Within the forum the Kazakh Minister is expected to meet with Cheick Sidi Diarra, the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
Besides, Vice Minister of Transport and Communications Azat Bekturov will meet with Vice Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic Jaroslav Král for discussing the issues of railway transportation of goods.
