Powerful blast in Afghanistan's Kandahar city
KANDAHAR. May 26. KAZINFORM Smoke and dust rose into the sky after a powerful blast ripped through Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, witnesses and officials said, Kazinform refers to Arab News.
"It was a car bomb," said Mohammed Shah Farouqi, a city police official. "So far we are not aware of any casualties."
The blast took place near the entrance of an office housing operations for a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), a foreign military-led effort for development across the country.
A Reuters witness said at least 8 cars were destroyed or damaged in the blast.
The blast comes after a recent series of suicide and bomb attacks against government and foreign troop targets and ahead of an expected US-led offensive against Taleban insurgents in Kandahar in July, Kazinform cites Arab News. See www.arabnews.com
