Leaders of the United States of America and Russia for the first time addressed the world from the UN tribune. The US President called the world for unification of the efforts in struggle against modern challenges. Barack Obama named four directions requiring urgent solution: non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament, promotion of peace and security, environmental protection and development of economy for the interest of all countries.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev touched upon three problems requiring urgent solution. The first issue is a gap between financial sectors and real sector of economy and unbalanced mechanisms of management of micro-economic processes. A new financial-economic model must be created to prevent any economic shocks in future. The second task of the modernity lies in solution of the problems of global energy security, the Russian Leader considers. The third direction is strengthening the UN potential.

Medvedev pointed out positive tendencies in the process of multilateral disarmament and spoke for giving universal character to the Russian-US Treaty on liquidation of intermediate-range and short-range intermediate missiles. Russian president finds recent amendments inserted to the US Plan on anti-ballistic missile system development as a constructive step. Other nuclear empires must join Washington and Moscow in disarmament, he said.

Leaders of Brazil, France, China, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and other countries also delivered speeches from the UN tribune yesterday.
