Police in China confiscate fake money worth $18.5 mln
MOSCOW, July 23. KAZINFORM Police in China confiscated fake money worth some $18.5 million and arrested over 460 suspects in counterfeit money-related crimes across the country since March, Xinhua news agency reported citing the Ministry of Public Security, RIA Novosti informs.
The ministry said in a statement that the clampdown on criminals printing fake money is a part of a special campaign launched in March against economic crimes.
"Fake note cases and the amount of fake notes discovered by financial institutes have been decreasing under sustained crackdowns," the agency quoted a statement from the ministry as saying.
In all, the ministry added, over 2,800 people were arrested across China for counterfeit money-related crimes since 2010 with four of them sentenced to death penalty for printing fake notes.
