Poland's presidential couple to be buried in Krakow
WARSAW. April 14. KAZINFORM Poland's late president Lech Kaczynski and his wife, Maria Kaczynska, will be buried Sunday in a state funeral in Krakow, the PAP news agency reported Tuesday; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Kaczynski and his wife were among 96 people killed Saturday in a plane crash in western Russia.
The presidential couple will be laid to rest in Krakow's 1,000-year-old Wawel Cathedral, the historical resting place of Poland's kings and former leaders since the 14th century, officials said.
Kaczynski's body was flown back home on Sunday, and his wife's body returned on Tuesday. The couple's closed coffins are lying in state in the Column Hall of the Presidential Palace for public viewing.
Senate Speaker Bogdan Borusewicz said Tuesday that a state funeral also most likely will be held in Warsaw on Saturday to mourn the others who died in the crash.
Investigators have suggested that human error may have been to blame in Saturday's crash that killed the presidential couple and 94 others, saying Monday there were no technical problems with the Soviet-made plane; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
