Plenary session of CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is underway in Saint Petersburg
SAINT PETERSBURG. November 28. KAZINFORM Saint Petersburg is hosting the 6th plenary session of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Parliamentarians of six CSTO member countries are in attendance. Delegations of Kazakhstani MPs are headed by Senate Speaker Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin.
At the plenary session CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha will present a report on the military and political situation in the CSTO member states territory and in the international arena.
Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin will also present a report on the new stage in the development of the CSTO parliamentary dimension.
"The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has proved its relevance and greatly contributed to strengthening of the organization's potential in all directions of its activity," he said.
According to Mr. Naryshkin, the CSTO PA could step up its efforts on harmonization and unification of the national legislations and expansion of contacts with non-member states of the CSTO.
Global security will be a separate topic for discussion at the International Conference "Nuclear security in the modern world. Role of parliamentarians in the process of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation" set to be held in Saint Petersburg tomorrow.
