Pelin Esmer named best director in Kazakhstan

ISTANBUL. October 1. KAZINFORM The international award-winning Turkish film "11'e 10 Kala" (10 to 11) has added yet another prize to its collection over the weekend when it earned its director, Pelin Esmer, the best director title at this year's Eurasia International Film Festival in Kazakhstan, the Turkish movie website Sadibey.com reported Tuesday.

"10 to 11," a drama that recounts the story of an aging, passionate collector named Mithat, played by Esmer's real life uncle, Mithat Esmer, and the building's concierge, Ali, played by Nejat İşler, was among the 12 titles running in the festival's international competition, which focused on Central Asian and Turkic films. Turkish film director Mustafa Altıoklar, whose credits include "İstanbul Beneath My Wings" and "Beyza'nın Kadınları" (Shattered Soul), was one of the four members of the competition's judging panel, which also included US actor Billy Zane.

Another title from Turkey also vying in the competition was "Saç" (Hair), the newest feature by director Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, which premiered this summer at the Locarno film festival. The Eurasia International Film Festival marked its sixth year from Sept. 21-25 in Almaty, Kazinform refers to Today's Zaman.
