Over 100 countries to participate in 51st International Mathematical Olympiad in Astana
ASTANA. July 2. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ The Kazakhstan Press Club has held a press conference dedicated to holding the 51st International Mathematical Olympiad. The press service of the Ministry of Education and Science informs of it.
Minister of Education and Science, Chairman of the Governmental Organizing Committee on preparation and holding of the International Mathematical Olympiad Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted that for the first time the post-Soviet space will hold the most prestigious intellectual competition among the school students of the world - the International Mathematical Olympiad. It is recognition of success of young Kazakh mathematicians by the International Olympic Committee. According to the results of the Comparative studies on Mathematics Education TIMSS which was published last year, the Kazakh students ranked the fifth place.
Over 100 countries of the world take part in the 51st International Mathematical Olympiad. The national teams from 102 states registered at the official site of the IMO. Over 1,200 people are expected to arrive in Kazakhstan.
Owing to the state's support, young Kazakhstanis took part in International Mathematical Olympiads, Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, Western China Mathematics Olympiad and many others. The collection of the Kazakh talented young mathematicians has 62 medals: 8 medals are gold, 17 - silver and 37 - bronze.
Holding the Olympiad in Kazakhstan promotes strengthening of the country's image at the world level, establishment of educational and scientific ties. It is opportunity to introduce the Olympiad participants with dynamical development of independent Kazakhstan.
