"As a Central Asian state Kazakhstan is determined to take into account the regional perspective while discussing the issues of European security and pay special attention to this component of the OSCE work including the Afghanistan situation", Mr. Abdykarimov noted.

According to him, one of the most important tasks for the OSCE and world community is the support of the Afghans in transformation of their war-ravaged country into a peaceful society based on the democratic principles and values.

"Besides, Kazakhstan intends to keep balance between three main 'baskets' of the Organization covering military-political, economic-environmental and humanitarian cooperation within its chairmanship in the OSCE. For instance, one of the most topical problems we should pay attention to within the framework of ensuring environmental security is the tragedy of the Aral Sea", the Director of the OSCE Department emphasized.

Due to Kazakhstan's experience in provision of interethnic and interconfessional stability the issues of tolerance and intercultural dialogue will be one of the most significant priorities as well. A top-level conference devoted to these themes will be held in Astana on June 29-30, 2010.
